PRIMAL INSTINCT:: NUDE SERIES 2010

“PRIMAL INSTINCT”
NUDE SERIES 2010
EXHIBITION::
I have been thinking a lot about my fine art  within the Context of Photography…. I have had exhibition for pastel paintings and other media. I have been an artist since as far back as i can remember.
Even though Fashion is my chosen focus, my desire to experiment is strong.  What influence fashion would have is totally unclear but inevitable .
A celebration of the skin and body with different photographic methods and treatments.  I am inspired by the contrast of light and shadow as it plays against very dark skin tones.  I am digging deeper into the primal movements, a seductive intensity of color highlighting a High-shine body  to create a seductive pull to the eye.
I definately knew I didn’t want bulky muscles on my male subject, more of a dancer physique was important to me.  I wanted slender but very lean, which I am sure will be the same for the women.
The desire to have the contrast of black against white is a bit obvious I admit or maybe inevitable but  where I started was when the pull for me really got exciting.  I began with this black against black idea, having the light be the only thing that defined the tone of the body.
I happened to be in bed looking at my hands which are usually long and thin, as the the morning light peeped through very heavy curtains. My skintone is not very dark but in this case it was, the edges of my fingers or curves of the hand caressed by the light.
And this is how it began for me.
Dakar, the model, was not a dancer but i knew he understood the importance of movement and elegance to each image. Primal instinct came from the fact that some of the images almost have primal faces within them. The movement at times made me think of tribal dance.
He has set the tone for the others ahead of him and I am ready for the white on white.
the challenge to find an interesting way to define very pale skin without losing it’s muscle tone…. To achieve the monochromatic feel and not lose my message:
“A celebration of the skin and body”
“A seductive intensity of color highlighting a High-shine body”
Perhaps a different message will be defined but a celebration will stand strong.
ciao for now
