Glossy Magazine: U.K. Cover

Glossy magazine: U.K. based magazine

I have been focused on getting published in European magazines. So i was very excited to have Glossy Magazine approach me  to submit a shoot i did while working with my Miami team.
Glossy requested my images for a 5 page editorial but  we got the cover as well!

model: Meijan Mock(Front Models at the time)
Hair: Fadhila Malki
makeup : Javier Martinez
Stylist: Page Haggerty
Store : thanks to “Ida and Harry” @ Fontainebleau

The Model is of course very important to me so I was delighted to work with Meighan who came highly recommended, by a trusted Designer.

Once i reviewed the models images from the agency,  i was totally excited about her look … she had the eyes. And this detail is what caught the eye of British Editor-and-Chief, Tallulah Doherty. Our original background concept was a bit more dramatic  but one little change to highlight the subject and there it was on the pages of a Glossy, my first European Magazine.

The day of the  shoot proved long,  but loads of fun.The mismanaged booking of shooting space 8am  was not available till 10am. Heads rolled at the concierge, but  we made the best of it. Even using the the side of  a building to act as a gigantic soft-box. In order to manage the time properly we used a predetermined  shot list. Further issues came in the night time when the mosquitoes loomed on us. I had to cover my entire body, wrap a scarf around my neck and remain focused on keeping the Model from being eaten alive. Couldn’t get bug spray all over the stylist’s  clothes!

Meijhan was very focused and managed to not get distracted by the bugs. We completed the shoot on schedule.

Here are some of the Pages from the Editorial :

Kim-Choong Wilkins: Intense designs!

This is what i mean when i say Intense! This is the kind of designer i would like to  shoot a campaign for.

Kim Choong-Wilkins is an MA Fashion graduate from the Royal College of Art in 2009.

After graduation from Central Saint Martins in 2005 Kim gained experience in the Alexander McQueen design team, designing knitwear in Milan for Ermenegildo Zegna.

I am not sure how many people realize my obession with Lee McQueen… His show is the first one I look at as iIview the season’s collections on style.com. I see the influence McQueen (R.I.P) has had on this upcoming Star. I also thought of Gareth Pugh  when  i saw this Newest Menswear collection which is said to be:

“Kim’s aim is to ‘pump sex back into a craft that has become lust-less’, prompting arousal and addiction for men’s knitwear by examining the relationship between seduction and repulsion. ” quoted from
blog.larmoiredustyliste.com

I am constantly looking for more visionaries whom push the limits.

Where are you? Show yourself!  Iwant to break bread with you.

Hammam-Kate Moss :: Photo by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott

Photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott
Styled by Alex White
Sept 2008

“In the steam of a traditional bathhouse, Kate Moss evokes a storm of sensuality, wearing slinky evening dresses and lingerie that leave little to the imagination” – unknown

Let me just say the video is dreamy and inspiring … I aspire to reach this level one day! I like to show what inspires me.

NO time like the Present to get on it.

Do you understand now that a model brings alot to the table… the energy she has to give is amazing. The lighting, clothes and makeup help her prepare herself and then it is the photographer’s eye. One must connect with that energy and capture the moment.

Alex White did a killer job really pulling the clothing together. Of course it’s becomes easier, when Alexander McQueen’s silk tulle dress is being used… you all know how deeply I feel for this Man!

Showstudio.com has an amazing video/interviewof Alexander McQueen… not common, I must say.

Invictus- poem by William Ernest Henley/ movie by Eastwood

INVICTUS

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

BY
William Ernest Henley

The power of this poem has moved me and I am holding it close …in times of hardship!
Even when things are great… it is a good reminder of the power within me.
It’s the very poem that Nelson Mandela drew strength from while in prison.
Watch out for INVICTUS the movie : directed by Clint Eastwood
Morgan Freeman does an amazing job as Mandela!

When you feel dark and tired… remember

Toronto Fashion week:Pink Tartan/Joe fresh

After a hectic week of seeing shows, I headed out to Pink Tartan/Joe Fresh….

I rushed to get there for 8pm with my FDCC Gold pass, which allows full access to all events and backstage. They decided to add a little Drama and not let anyone in that didn’t have a seat card. Yes that was a bit annoying but i really didn’t make a fuss for that foolishness, mostly because my stylist Snowdon and I decided …screw that mess stuff why not stay in the VIP lounge with Open BAR, sip wine and watch on Large Plasma screen by LG the title sponsor while we  figure out if we like the collection .

There were pieces that had my attention. The models selection was great.
When the show was over, everyone rushed to line up and get into the  VIP… wow what a stampede as I relaxed and watched.
I did the same thing when JOE FRESH started at 9:15pm
Very fun show as usual ..interesting styling but the shoes were giving hell! Some models kick them off  in mid-stride and picked them up on the way back down the runway. A buckle felt off as well.

Now, the after party held by NYOOD at 1096 Queen St West, walking distance from the tents was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! this year they didn’t serve delights but the music and the interesting blend of party goers cover that over for  sure.
We drank and had a blast, dancing till i thought, “ok, we are not going to be the last ones here”, and yes the music was that good. Snowdon positioned us at the most ideal place in the room, everyone had to pass us so it made for an awesome networking position.  It allowed us to speak to just the right people without chasing a single soul. I think we should do this at every Party!

Toronto Fashion Week: Day 2-Tues: Bustle Clothing+Stacey Mckenize

I was seriously disappointed that Andy The-Anh, did not have a runway show this season, it was in the Showroom… NO NO NO, I am not a happy camper. I watched it on screen but I was still unhappy.

That’s all I will say about that. Still love you Andy but….. grrrr

Bustle picked up my spirits and threw an exciting affair. Stacy Mackenize  at the center of the excitement. Bustle Knows how to select models!

She was serving Bloody Mary’s  to the front row … quite seductively of course and the crowd loved it. As you can see from the image. The clothing had spice as always.  She took a bite out of a man’s celery, and made him take a bite out of it before serving him his drink.

“Bustle Clothing was founded by Shawn Hewson (Designer, Judge on Project Runway Canada) and Ruth Promislow – two Bay Street lawyers.
Distributed nationwide, Bustle is a leading Canadian sportswear label that has become well known for its cheeky and sharply tailored leisure aesthetic; their sensibility has been described by the media as that of the eccentric British gentleman – a mix of Etro or Paul Smith and Dsquared2.”(quote from their facebook)

So if you are a jet setter then this is your brand… if you desire to live that life… start by dressing and finding ways to keep you in the the vibe of what you want.

JAMAICA TRADE & INVEST: Networking Party by Pennant Media Group

Holla,

Networking Networking Networking… My fanny off!
I am Jamaican so you know an appearance is a must!! So off to Harlem on Richmond - Carl Cassel (2nd location on queen Street)
Harlem has serious swagger..moody and delicious. I had no idea i was going to be there most of the night, then again DJ Carl Allen was rockin’ us, making us stay.

back to the purpose: Jamacia Trade and  Invest::

A presentation was done showing the amazing amount of films shot in J.A.
Jamaica has served as a shooting location for many of Hollywood’s biggest movies, including 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954), A High Wind in Jamaica (1965), All The Brothers Were Valiant (1953), Dr No featuring Sean Connery (1962), Live and Let Die (1973), Children of Babylon (1979), The Blue Lagoon (1980), Eureka (1981), Clara’s Heart featuring Whoopi Goldberg (1985), Club Paradise (1985), In Like Flynn (1985), Return to Treasure Island (1985), The Mighty Quinn with Denzel Washington (1989), Cocktail (1988), Hammerhead (1988), Marked for Death (1990), Lord of the Flies (1990), Prelude to a Kiss (1991), Cool Runnings (1993), Wide Sargasso Sea (1993) and Legends of the Fall with Brad Pitt (1993).
Who knew Legends of the Fall was done there. The Sexy Brad Pitt dipping maybe even “Nude” in my Jamaican sea..hmmm maybe even at Moonlight…ok ok

This was organized by the super cool Kevin Pennant of Pennant media Group
Host:  Tonya Lee Williams

So of course the turn was great and attended by the fashion Elite: Suzanne Boyd- Toronto fashion guru. Those that dont know she was FLARE magazine editor-in-chief, 1996-2004 then moved to NYC to work with Time INC on the New and exciting SUEDE magazine till 2005. Presently She is reigning at Zoomer Magazine
I am still upset at the fall or hiatus of the Fashion- forward ethnic magazine SUEDE magazine. A black magazine with edge !
Suzanne was accompanied by Michael King, CEO and Creative Director, Kontent Group , who Launched SIR magazine. It is not totally clear if Michael is still with KONTENT but i know he makes waves on the fashion scene.

The Purpose of the event was to Help Film maker to network and encourage them to make more films in Jamacia.
Business cards were given out and connections made.
my ears caught news of a “Caribbean Top Model” hmm could it be?

I got caught up with some important people and had a blast all at the same time. That is  how it should be.

This is just apart of the Social happenings of a Fashion Photographer!

Stilo Cover Shoot: Stacey Sexton from NAM models

Shooting the   STILO magazine cover: “The Bolder Issue”

So in between all the craziness of moving back to Toronto from Miami.. I still have to shoot the cover for Stilo magazine. I didnt have much time. I was way behind!
casting the model is important.
For weeks i couldn’t find a girl that felt right for this Beauty story.

I of course trust my amazing makeup artist Roxanne DeNobrega… who was a solid team member when i was in Toronto before.
My ex- model agent Norwayne Anderson(NAM models) trusts my eye and gave me a super fresh face for this issue, he knows i love Red-heads. Bingo- you have Stacey… a young girl from Newfoundland. that right you heard me… way out there. (you will have to google it.)

In she walks with her Boyfriend behind her. What a delicate little face…i realize later on that she looks like Jessica Stam in the last shot of the day. We shot on Wed afternoon and then on Sunday to finish off the editorial. Wed was a cover try cause i wasnt sure if she could carry the weight of this concept.
The issue is called “The Bolder issue” and I wanted Roxy to apply different kinds of metal to the skin illustrating the season’s spikey shoes and silver zippers. I saw the McQueen show and of course it drove me metal-crazed. I look to him first every single season.(I can’t wait to meet him)

I went to the hardware store for inspiration of course and felt like i was in wonderland of textures. Roxanne being our amazing beauty editor on this story , came with me to build  and conceptualize.
I had metal crawling up stacey’s neck and almost into her mouth. It almost looked like it was taking over her face and she was turning into Android.

“IRON MAIDEN” is the name of the editorial that came out on Sunday which was day 2 of shooting. We needed to flush out more looks and once i realize Stacey could express the right emotion for each look  i booked her 4day later. Don’t let the delicate face and the very young age fool you.
This little girl has got layers.

I think a new Muse is born!
A muse is said to be:: goddesses who embody the arts and inspire the creation process with their graces

This is from shooting the first day..a Cover try became a absoulte! I need the needed more.Cant show you more till end of the week

So i think you see what i am saying. i will show the Stilo pages later on. it launches in 2days.
http://www.stilomag.com
I am already trying to figure out the next shoot with Stacey. Unfortunately i have another project i must finish first, then after the Oct. 16th … i will give a blog-peep.
WATCH OUT FOR THIS GIRL!

Ame launch party…Toronto

So watch out i might be posting a lot more now that i have things a little more in place. My Move back to Toronto has been good.I am really excited to get things going.

That however requires networking.. which i feel is necessary in Fashion Industry. What’s happening:TIFF:Toronto Film Festival- we are talking party galore.

This year i am rolling with the Marlon Durrant Empire(www.marlondurrant.com) luxury Custom tailor…The Bespoke King of Toronto. To make sure it is really understood, Bespoke means “to be spoken for”,17th Century tailors would reserve fabrics for their Patrons.
Even in the Durrant studio or should i say atelier, when you walk in decadence is the word for the experience. With a combination of Sultry Jazz music, lux fabrics and a selection of aged Appleton rum and Balvenie.
If this is How they run their personal space then it only makes sense that they would extend that experience in their personal entertainment.

Durrant has international reach and personally represents luxury lifestyle. These People know how to have presence and create there own vibe.

What better Empire to roll with during Film Fest.
Starting with Yesterday: AME launch Party
Formally Known as RAIN on Mercer Street.
Decor was delicious and moody.. my favorite kind of setting .SEXY!

Tonight the saga continues TCHAD magazine party : Sexy People..sexy places ..

SEE YA THERE!

there is so much to learn …

I am thinking about website ranking and posting link everywhere… and Alexa ranking.
it is a crazy world.
www.truferguson.com

http://www.truferguson.com

Getting this website known is interestingly challenging.I wonder if other people’s brain hurt when then think about their own site. Are people finding me? Are my services and business getting to the right person? What’s my website traffic like? blah blah blah…

I hate that feeling like there is someone out there that would love my work..want to hire me and can’t find me.

Worldwide web is the perfect name to this complex map of information highways.
Well i am giving it a break and handing it over to the interns . I need to be shooting …i need to be making Images.I am now dreaming of sculpting pieces for beauty concept.
there seems to not being enough time in the day for all that goes on in my head!
